Memorial Museum of Cosmonautics

Experience a tour that will take you on journey to the stars and back again! During your visit to the most famous space museum in the country, you’ll have the opportunity to learn all about the history of Russian cosmonautics – from the pioneering space programmes, to the “space race” that took place between the USSR and the USA, and all the many stellar successes that have since followed.

You’ll have the chance to see actual spacecrafts that have returned to earth after completing their missions, as well as several full-scale models of Russian satellites and space rockets. Plus you’ll get to learn about the technology that went into creating these extraordinary devices, such as the Russian RD-107 and RD-119 rocket engines – including the mechanics behind each mission launch. You’ll also enjoy finding out more about the famous Vostok and Soyuz space ships, as well as the spacecraft that carried, and successfully returned to earth, the first ever canine “cosmonauts” – Belka and Strelka. And you’ll discover some of the more recent international space programmes that Russia has collaborated with, including Intercosmos, Soyuz-Apollo and ISS – as well as its own interplanetary stations that have reached the moon, Venus and Mars!

You’ll also gain a greater understanding of the training that’s required to become a cosmonaut – as well as what it takes to be able to live on a space station for many months at a time. Plus you’ll get to learn about some of the experiments that are conducted on the space station, as well as see the various space suits that are used for all the different missions. And, you’ll also have the chance to step inside a model of the actual Mir Space Station for a taste of what it’s really like living in space!

During this tour, you’ll also have the opportunity to meet with an actual Cosmonaut and hear first-hand about their experience in space – as well as ask them about any questions you may have.
